Our Team
Kevin McLeod
Kevin McLeod is the Founder & CEO of Yardstick Services but more importantly, he is a passionate supporter of small businesses. In 2006, Yardstick Services began as yet another Vancouver-based consulting firm providing business development to small and medium-sized businesses. While working on a number of projects, Kevin bore witness to the pain felt by clients trapped in the old models of costly out-sourced web design. Leveraging the benefits of open-source technology, Kevin decided to create a better business model designed to focus on what small business owners want most – more phone calls, emails and walk-in traffic. Thus, our flat-monthly rate business model was created which continues to satisfy many small business owners throughout the Lower Mainland.
Kevin's draws on his experience in quality control management, operations management, and regional management acquired in BC's fishing and home renovation industries. He has a B.Sc. from the University of British Columbia and has recently completed his M.B.A. in Management of Technology at Simon Fraser University. Speaking monthly at Small Business BC allows Kevin to educate small business owners on how to effectively leverage the web. And Kevin is an avid networker that can be seen at many technology and small business functions around Vancouver.
Kevin lives with his wife in Kerrisdale and, in his spare time, enjoys soccer, golf, playing guitar and reading best selling business books. Feel free to connect with Kevin through one of his social media channels. Or check out the Small Business BC seminars page to see the date of his next speaking engagement.
Brendon McLeod
Brendon, brother of Yardstick CEO Kevin Mcleod, is a self-proclaimed "techno-phile", passionate about anything and everything in the world of user electronics and technology. If it's new, cutting-edge, and awesome, chances are Brendon knows about it, loves it, and is already on his way to the store to buy it. It was only inevitable then that Brendon would end up in the web technology industry.
Having worked for tech giant eBay at their customer service center in Vancouver, Brendon gained valuable, real-world insight into how design and business decisions affect clients and users. Add to that experience a bachelor's degree in Psychology from SFU, and an ongoing education in Web Technologies from BCIT, and you have a great snapshot of the background for Yardstick's Web Development Manager. As Web Development Manager, Brendon's passion for blending aesthetics with function are the cornerstone for many of Yardstick's design philosophies.
When Brendon does manage to pull himself away from his computer, television, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Xbox, he also enjoys golf, soccer, reading, cooking, eating, drinking, traveling, hiking, camping, and relaxing. Living on the rain-soaked North Shore of the Lower Mainland gives Brendon great proximity to mountains, oceans, forests, and the beautiful urban metropolis of Vancouver.
Lee Nelson
Skateboard decks and comic books, two early pieces of inspiration that lead Lee to develop an acquired interest for creative art. Lee never took graphics too seriously until about five years ago, when he began experimenting with Photoshop to help develop his musical brand.
Soon after, Lee began working as a part time freelancer, designing flyers and ads for local companies and events. These opportunities lead Lee to work with representatives from companies such as Red Bull, Marlin Travel , and MTV, and later inspired him to pursue a career in a field of creativity.
Having recently graduated with honors from the New Media Design and Web Development program at BCIT, Lee is now the Creative Lead at Yardstick Services. The majority of his time is spent designing and developing websites that aesthetically represent each client’s brand and speak to the intended consumers.
Producing music, watching Lynda.com and rooting for the Canucks take up a fair amount of Lee’s extra curricular time. When finding time to get away from the pixels, Lee enjoys working out, traveling, hockey, golf, snowboarding, and the majority of other stereotypical, Northwestern activities.
